On November 17, 2002, twenty-two academics and industrialists gathered to found and form ICAT, the International Committee for Abrasive Technology. The mission of the committee is to provide a forum for those practicing in the fields related to abrasive technology and facilitate the global development of the discipline through the international collaboration of activities and in particular the organization of the annual International Symposium on Advances in Abrasive Technology (ISAAT).
